Project Stamp Out Despair provides all those detained in the Elizabeth Detention Center with a gift packet containing writing supplies and stamps so that they may write to their family and friends. Each packet contains information about the First Friends visitors program and contact information for those who wish to have a visitor.
In 2007, First Friends will deliver Stamp Out Despair packets in July and December. It is a highly successful program as evidenced by the many thank you notes we have received from detainees. If you and your group would like to help with Stamp Out Despair, we always need:
- first class stamps (both within the U.S. and international)
- aerogrammes
- envelopes
- writing paper
- cards
- nonretractable pens (the EDC will not accept pens with springs)
Let us know if you wish to be involved so we can arrange for the supplies to be picked up or dropped off at our office.
